Since 1996, the mission of the Student Assistance Program has been to ensure the safety, health and well-being of all students through programs that emphasize alcohol, tobacco, other drug intervention and support programs in the Olympia School District. 

Our comprehensive approach provides prevention education, intervention and  targeting the reduction of alcohol, tobacco and other drug use. Our counselors provide services to students and families directly related to substance abuse and other risk-taking behaviors effecting success in school and beyond. Identified students receive formalized screenings, individual and/or small group education, on-going counseling and recovery support services. 

Services We Provide

 

Prevention Education

Assists students with alcohol and other drug education to enhance positive life choices while reducing at-risk behaviors.

Individualized Counseling

Individual counseling is provided for those students who have exhibited substance use and/or co-occurring conditions, have requested individual sessions, or who are found to benefit more from an individualized program.

Intervention 

Identified students and families are provided assistance through individual and/or group counseling.

Recovery Support

Provides support to students returning to school from an intensive treatment program.

Referral Services

School counselors work in coordination with community resources to provide additional support when individuals are in need of in-patient or out-patient treatment or specialized mental health counseling.

How To Refer

Referrals to our program may be made by staff, parents, students or other concerned individuals by contacting the school counselor or completing our confidential referral form (attached below).

Our Community Connections

The development and implementation of our comprehensive program includes a strong community component. Community involvement includes on-going program coordination and communication with TOGETHER!, Thurston County Department of Health Prevention/Intervention Programs, the Thurston County Courts, Community Youth Services, the Department of Social and Health Services.

Students assessed to be in need of outpatient/inpatient treatment or mental health counseling are referred to licensed agencies specializing in these areas.
