Second community feedback survey

Several weeks ago we asked for your feedback about the school district’s Distance Learning Plan. We also shared that we would be sending additional surveys to students, parents/guardians and the community to help us monitor and improve our distance learning model.

Meal distribution sites during school closure

All Olympia School District elementary schools, Jefferson Middle School and several designated community sites will distribute meals to students and youth during the six weeks OSD schools are closed (beginning on Monday, March 16 and continuing until Friday, April 24, or until further notice).

Board approves Distance Learning Plan

The Olympia School District Board of Directors approved a Distance Learning Plan, which includes a grading matrix for preschool through grade 12, at its May 11, 2020 board meeting. The plan is posted on the K-12 Teaching and Learning webpage, along with copies of critical learning standards for both elementary and secondary levels.

OSD Teacher of the Year: Elaine Rinker

Every year, our district selects a Teacher of the Year from nominations submitted by students, staff and community members. This year we proudly present Elaine Rinker, who teaches special education at Centennial Elementary School. Rinker says she experienced a flood of varying emotions, including shock, gratefulness and a deep sense of appreciation, when she was told she had been chosen as the Teacher of the Year at an impromptu Centennial Elementary staff meeting.

Registering Your Student at the OSD

New students who live within OSD attendance boundaries will need to complete the Olympia School District application for student registration forms and submit them to their neighborhood school. The state has recognized seven Olympia School District schools for their work in demonstrating achievement, showing growth over the previous year, or closing opportunity gaps for students during the 2018-19 school year.

OSD to receive three electric buses

The Olympia School District will add the first three electric school buses to its fleet thanks to a grant from the Washington State Department of Ecology. The three battery-powered school buses are among 40 that will be purchased with nearly $12 million in Ecology grants awarded to 22 school districts statewide. The grant awards are one of the “largest investments in zero-emission school buses in the country,” according to a press release issued by the Department of Ecology.
