In this class, designed primarily for ninth graders, we will review parts of speech, grammar rules, and correct sentence construction. Organizing, writing and editing an impressive five point paragraph will be the focus first semester. Second semester will concentrate on composing the five paragraph essay. Throughout the year the class will be reading current ninth grade curriculum novels and short stories: To Kill a Mockingbird, Call of the Wild, Of Mice and Men and a shortened version of Les Miserables.
Homework:
Our focus for fall semester will be learning to organize and write correctly five point paragraphs. Most weeks, students will compose their paragraph on Wed and Thurs, and type it on Friday in the computer lab. Editing this work should be done at home on Thurs. evening in most cases. We will also be reading the novel, Speak, by Laura Anderson, and students may finish the comprehension questions at home.
