Attendance and Participation Policy: Most activities, discussion and research will be done during class time. If you are absent, excused or not, you are not participating in those activities designed to help you understand the issues being studied. If you missed class (excused absence), you need to see Mr. O’Neill the next day and check the class log to see what must be made up. No points will be deducted from you total score if you make up what was missed. If there was lecture and discussion about North Korea, then you missed what was learned so even if there was no in-class assignment, you’ll need do read about North Korea and write a summary IN YOUR OWN WORDS turned it in to Mr. O’Neill within two school days after having been assigned the make up. (Typed, single spaced, ½ to one page. Cite sources.)
Points lost if excused absence is not made up.
1-3 absences No loss of points.
4-9 absences 5% of your total points
More than 10 10% of your total points. (One full grade.)
Please do not tell Mr. O’Neill why you are unable to do assignments. Job, sports, dead computer, New Market, transportation issues do not excuse you from being responsible for what is assigned. I DO NOT ACCEPT LATE ASSIGNMENTS other than after an excused absence.
Simple rules and expectations:
- Water only
- No cell phones, ipods, headphones in room 506 even before or after class.
- CWP is third period right after break. There is no reason you can not be on time.
- When in the library or computer lab, do the assigned research. Off-task results in the loss of participation points the same as an unexcused absence.
- Plagiarism is cheating. If quoting a source, use quotation marks and cite your source. All writing must be your own. School policy- five days study hall and loss of points.
