11. Help with Thurston County Food Project 10-noon; meet in the covered play shed/bus turn-around at Pioneer Elementary School to help unload and pack food donations. Contact person: Denise Pantelis dpantelis27@gmail.com (This is an ongoing project and will also occur the 2nd Saturday of Feb., April, June, Aug., Oct., and Dec.)

21. Tenalquot Preserve 9-3 Please wear clothing that can be damaged by tree sap, sparks, and/or ground in dirt. A hat is also recommended to protect hair from wayward sparks. Bring a boxed lunch, plenty of water, and work gloves. Directions:

  • If coming from the north, take exit 109 and follow Martin Way to College St.
  • If coming from the south, take exit 108 to College St.
  • Head east on College St.
  • College St. will turn into Rainier Rd. after crossing Yelm Highway. Continue onto Rainier Rd., staying straight as you go through the roundabouts. Travel about 9 miles to Military Rd.
  • Take a right onto Military Rd. and follow for about 0.5 miles.
  • Turn right down the (otherwise unmarked) gravel road marked by the 'Prairie Event' sign. We will meet up in the parking area at the bottom of the hill.
  • If you begin to go down the hill to the train tracks, turn around and just past the yellow-ish brown house (which would now be on your left) you will see the gate and driveway.

*Please note the road is uneven and rough into the preserve!
