The Evergreen State College is hosting its annual High School Math Meet on Saturday, November 19, 2016, from 9:00am to 3:00pm at The Evergreen State College (registration starts at 8:30am, and events start at 9:00am). All high school students are welcome to come and enjoy a day of fun problems and competition!
This is a free event! Each school can bring up to 18 students (possibly more, depending on space restrictions; if you might want to bring more than 18, please indicate that in your preregistration). All participants will receive a certificate of participation. Lunch options will be available for purchase on campus that day, or you can bring your own lunch.
At this year’s meet, there will once again be two sets of team prizes: one for teams consisting only of Freshmen & Sophomores, and one for overall teams. We’d love to see lots of Freshmen & Sophomores at our meet and hope you’ll consider bringing teams with students at that level as well as more advanced students.
The meet will consist of the following tests (for more information about these tests and how they’re scored, see http://mathleague.org/hstests.php):
- Team Test (20 minutes for 10 problems, solved as a team, calculators allowed)
- Target Test (individual; 8 problems, given 2 at a time with 10 minutes per pair of problems, calculators allowed)
- Sprint Test (individual; 60 minutes for 30 multiple-choice problems, no calculators)
- Relay Test (5 multi-part problems, each problem solved as a 3-person team in individual stages, no calculators)
All participants who score 50% or better, or in the 80th percentile or better, in any single event at this meet will be invited to the Washington Regional Championship, to be held at Evergreen in April, 2017!
Calculators: Any calculator approved for use on the SAT is acceptable for the team test and target test (but not for the sprint test or relay). Students may use multiple calculators and are not required to clear calculator memories before testing. Students must bring their own calculators to the meet.
