This course is a beginning class in automotive technology where students are able to learn the theory and operation of the automobile and the industry that supports it. This class is based on NATEF standards for general automotive repair covering the following systems; Engine repair, Automatic Transmission, Manual Transmission, Suspension/Steering, Brakes, Electrical, Heating/AC, Engine Repair. Students must take this class and pass before they are allowed to take Automotive Technology.
GRADING:
The grading system for power technology will be based on the following 5 areas; notebook, test scores, written assignments, task sheets and attitude.
LAB DAYS:
Periodically students will be given hands on assignments, which will take them out in the lab area. During this time all students are to follow shop safety rules and conduct themselves in an adult manner; failure to follow shop safety rules can result in removal from the program and receiving a (F) grade for the semester.
TEST SCORES:
A test will be given at the end of each chapter. Students are allowed to use notes on tests unless specified by the instructor.
WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS:
Throughout the year a number of written assignments will be given. Students are responsible for the completion of these assignments and they will be due on the date assigned. If a student is absent the assignment is due on the 3rd day following the students return. It will be the student’s responsibility when absent to find out if any written assignments were given during their absence.
NOTEBOOK:
Each student is required to have a notebook to keep notes, write ups, handouts, graded tests, and task sheets
ATTITUDE AND CONDUCT:
Part of the student’s grade is based on the instructor’s evaluation of the student in the following areas.
1. Plan and organize and carry out assignments.
2. Accept and assume shop responsibility.
3. Care of tools, machines and materials.
4. Respect others and their property (no put downs!)
5. Bring your notebook, paper, pen/pencil and assignment to class daily.
6. Be in your assigned seat before the tardy bell rings.
7. Follow safety rules at all times.
8. Please do not talk while someone else is talking.
9. Complete all homework and daily work on time.
10. Do not play C.D. or radio’s in class. They must be out of sight.
11. No pagers allowed in class.
12. No open toed shoes allowed in shop or lab area.
13. Student will follow school attendance policy with out exception
14. Student will act in a safe, courteous and productive manner while involved in any class activity.
All students must pass an online safety test
prior to entering the shop, and will be completed as soon as possible
in class or at home.
