WORK-BASED LEARNING/ WORK
ATTENDANCE AND GRADING POLICIES
1. The requirement for this class is two fold. Each student must be actively employed and be attending 3rd period class each day in order to receive a work credit and class credit. In other words, one credit is dependent on the other. They must be actively working to get the class credit and they must be actively enrolled in the class to receive the work credit. The student must pass both classes to get either credit.
2. Students will receive credit for hours worked based on class attendance. Since job training is an extension of class, you will receive credit for hours worked only on days you attend class, except for weekends, holidays, and school vacations. Exceptions are approved by the teacher.
3. Transportation to and from Olympia High School for employment is the responsibility of the student. Transportation arrangements must meet with the approval of his/her parents and the school administration. Each student must bring current proof of insurance to their instructor before work credit will be allowed.
4. Parents or guardians will assume responsibility for the conduct and safety of the student from the time he/she leaves school until he/she reports to his/her training station; likewise, from the time he/she leaves his/her training station until his/her arrival at home.
5. On-the-job training is the responsibility of the school. When job situations become unpleasant for the student for any reason, the student should inform the coordinator. It is the student’s responsibility to inform the coordinator of any situation that may lead to the student being dismissed from his/her training station. Should the student lose his/her job, the coordinator must be informed immediately.
6. A student who loses a job due to negligence or misconduct or quits without first consulting with the coordinator will receive a failing grade for their work grade.
7. Any records, forms, evaluations that are falsified shall be cause for the student to lose credit for the class.
8. A student who loses a job due to lack of employment need or has to resign due to lack of sufficient hours will receive an “Incomplete”. When employment resumes and when the student has satisfactorily completed the required number of work hours, he/she will then receive full credit.
9. Employment conditions--including total hours worked by the student--will be regulated by the coordinator and the employer. Each student is required to maintain continuous employment throughout the semester/year and average a minimum of 10 hours per week.
10. The student’s first responsibility is school. It is the student’s responsibility to make satisfactory arrangements with the employer concerning his/her work schedule on those occasions when a student’s presence is necessary at school.
11. Upon completion of the student’s daily classes, each student must leave the school property and report to either home then work, or to their place of employment.
12. Work-Based Learning/work classes are vocationally reimbursed classes. This means that special funds are provided by the state and federal government wherever such classes are taught. However, before these funds are distributed, special reports must be submitted giving information concerning the activity of these classes.
Therefore, each member of the class is required to submit complete and accurate statistics regarding employment, hours, and wages, every time they get a pay voucher. Even if you will not be receiving credit for your work at the end of first/second semester, you must keep these records, which will be completed monthly. GRADES WILL ONLY BE GIVEN AFTER REQUIRED INFORMATION HAS BEEN ACCURATELY REPORTED ON THE PROPER FORMS. Grades for cooperative work are based on the following:
-Completion of 180 hours per semester.
-Turning in a pay voucher at least each month.
-Evaluation by employer each semester.
The student shall conduct himself/herself in a manner that reflects credit to self, school, and employer.
The undersigned have read and agree with the above policies:
