Atlanta/ICDC up-date.

We survived ICDC. Eight members traveled to Atlanta to attend the International Career Development Conference. The members were Lauren Rask, Kaila Sweeney, Machal Salazar, Sarah Stoker, Olivia Lewis, Iris Petersen, Geritt Stoker, and Kyle Burns. We left on Thursday, April 24, and returned on Wednesday, April 30, 2008. We had direct flights on Delta Airlines. Our hotel was the Atlanta Marriott Marquis.

Even though parts of Atlanta are experiencing a drought, it managed to rain two and half days while we were there. Most of our activities were centered in the Georgia World Congress Dome and the Atlanta Convention Center. Since our hotel was over ten blocks away, we rode shuttle buses and the MARTA.

Sarah and Iris competed in the Travel and Tourism Team Event. Kyle, Machal and Lauren presented their School Based Enterprise event to panel of judges and were part of a round table discussion on school store best practices. They were recognized on stage at the opening session in front of 11,000 people. Kaila and Geritt were also recognized on stage for our Membership Campaign Award. Olivia, chapter president for 2008-2009, attended the Chapter Management Academy. Iris attended the LEADS training as a state office for Washington DECA.

Safeway takeover.

Our chapter will be doing a Safeway takeover on Wednesday, March 26th, from 9:00am - 2:15pm. Over thirty members will be assuming the role of Safeway employees and doing their work. Please stop by and be a part of this valuable learning experience. Hope to see you there.
